La Puce Et Le Pianiste
Words and music: Yves Duteil

1 One day on a piano
A flea took up residence
She put down her backpack
Her city belongings
She had traveled a lot
Jumped a lot, very stung
And so as not to be seen
On a black one she settled
2 But suddenly the light appeared
And its sounds struck her ear
A hand stepped on him
Her anger was unparalleled
She followed his developments
With eyes full of attention
To try to climb
On the hand that had trampled on her
3 When she finally succeeded
She refined her needle
And began to prick the hand
While dancing the quadrille
But suddenly the hand moved
And its rhythm accelerated
And the flea, all excited
More vigorously, started again to prick
4 In the pain and the itch
The hand grew faster
No longer followed the score
And no longer had any guide
But in the room we applauded
Without guessing that it was
Thanks to an angry flea
That jazz was born
