When you’re riding your dark horse on the wrong side of the tracks
be sure not to count your chickens before they hatch
and look to the sunny side, of the street

An old owl spoke those words to me, he said, “know what I mean?”
Perfectly mixed up much like a flying submarine
I said, “Owl sir, please be clear

“the early bird gets the worm
and a penny saved is a penny earned

the lights are on, but no one’s home

Thoroughly confused by now and just a little miffed I said
“Owl sir, you hurt my head,
So please explain, what it is you said.”
“the squeaky wheel gets the grease
and beware the wolf, in sheep’s fleece”
And look to the sunny side, of the street
