They have vilified her through song, literature and rumour as Hungary’s flower of evil; hemlock through fictional propaganda. The family of Báthory was most wealthy but a dynasty that holds no private archives call it something of a secret nature.
There is indeed penned in her own hand, the words of this apparent serpent tongue kept in the archives of other noble acquaintances. Those words belonged to this once outspoken and gallant lady and there are no indications of lunacy or a sadistic crimson hellion. How quaint that it is but the opposite?
Her king failed to provide her with the gallantry of his military during the chronic invasion by the Ottoman Empire and so she protected her people and land by raising her own army, he who did fail to provide the army, fails to repay his debt to her and so she sued the royal treasury.
This so called ‘Satan’ formed an alliance with other Protestants when the Catholic Church warned to take from her and when all was said and done one – in my opinion - see’s that she was just a person who would not submit nor be a mute to their threats. Her ladyship would not play the victim or the game, neither would she become disarmed. As if a true lady of today, she would not be unheard or silenced. It is motive enough to write her out of the history books by burying her life behind lies and a brick wall.
