I’m going down to Darwin – to drown a distant dream,
And while I’m there – I’ll conjure up some crazy foolproof scheme –
To clear you from my memory – delete you from my mind,
So when I at last come back again – you’ll be gone for all of time.
We should never have done the things now - we thought we had to do –
And got wrapped around our minds till then - we were me and you.
We should never have been lovers – in the way we thought was cool-
And tangled up our functions - like two adolescent fools…so -
You say I helped you feel – so good about yourself –
You’ll be stronger now with lovers – you’ll have after myself.
You say I’ve done lots for you - and you still want us to be friends –
But I have this crazy feeling now - so much now has to end…so -
What I never realised then – what I couldn’t see –
Was just how much you had begun - to really mean to me.
I thought - like you – it was easy - to say a quick “goodbye”.
And move on to a new love and life - and never need to cry…so
