Not a Day goes By
Not a day goes by without thoughts of you,
Of how we used to be when times were good;
And scarce a night passes slept dreamless through,
That is not visited by how we would
Blend our lives to make a time we’d not lose;
But now it is torn asunder and we
Cannot more make this home seem all it was
For now you are you and I am just me;
Living separate times and places now,
Never speaking more than in thought only;
Leaving me wondering what happened how –
This distance that’s come upon you and me.
Try as I might now I know not yet why
This has to be so now for you and I.
Not a day goes by now when I wonder
How this could happen to anyone’s day;
How what we made was pulled out from under –
Our feet as they still trod their weary way.
When once we thought of our lives just we two –
Would continue in parallel motion;
Now without all that could be me and you
My life a voyage on stormy ocean.
With you I thought calm each day could be found
You still’d stormy waters more than I knew;
Took you for granted when you were around;
Only saw that, when I knew I’d lost you.
If only I could turn back father time -
I’d be much better and you’d still be mine.
Not a day goes by now when I don’t dream,
Of how to mend this broken paradise;
That could have been, sure did everyone seem,
To think the cost of this too high a price.
Now they try not to sound too high or low,
On talk of what happened to us back then;
Whatever they think , whatever they know,
It always seems sure to come back again
To the future, none can tell it yet, so.
But I keep dreaming and hoping that yet,
(Neither you nor I can e’er hope to know.)
We’ll talk again sweet, like when we first met.
For all of the bridges water flows through,
There’s no one for me I’d love more than you.
