Carl Orff
fortune plango vulnera

I mourn Fortune's wounds
with dripping eyes
that she withdraws her gifts from the rebels.
It is true that it is read,
hairy on the front,
but usually follows
A bald occasion.
On Fortune's throne
I sat exalted,
Crowned with the colorful
flower of prosperity;
for whatever flourished
happy and blessed,
I have now fallen from the top
deprived of glory.
Fortune's wheel revolves:
I descend;
the other is lifted up;
too exalted
the king sits on top
may he fall!
For under the axis we read
Queen Hecuba.
