Anne Takle the rest of his days

He doesn't look up from
his paper to tell her
that she's still the love
and the light of his eye.
She dosen't kiss him
and thinks he still knows it
that he's worth more than
diamonds that fall from the sky.
She's mostly contented
with living the small life.
He's restless, still bent on
success in the world.
And oh what she'd give
if he'd just take it easy.
And settle awhile
just be still and with her.
And sometimes she looks at
the boy she once knew
and wonders a moment
what got in their way.
And sometimes to him
she's still that young girl
he promised to cherish
the rest of his days.
For children are raised now,
the mortage is paid up.
They've done it together
all down through the years.
Now it should be sunsets
and far golden places
and soft hazy twilights
without any cares.
And sometimes she looks at
the boy she once knew
and wonders a moment
what got in their way.
And sometimes to him
she's still that young girl
he promised to cherish
the rest of his days.
He promised to cherish
for the rest of his days.
Mmmmmmm
