The Call of the City
It was the call of the city that one day bewitched me
And that took me away from the countryside where I was born
To work in the city, my family I had to leave
It's like my quiet nature which only holds on to the past ©
An unnatural marriage, between flesh and steel
Parked between all these walls that keep me prisoner
I don't know what I'm doing here, it's as sad as it is a shame
Because as jobs are rare, I live on unemployment insurance...
But you get used to the city, I even believe that it makes you safer
It is in a subtle way that it exerts its influence
We get used to the boulevards that we frequent late in the evening
To the games rooms and bars , animated on all sides
In this smoky atmosphere, where I strive to exist
Syrupy glances are exchanged, prescribed by dubious businesses
And still floats under the neon lights the pungent smell of disappointment
Forbidden pleasures will always have a taste of perdition...
On wastelands as in damp alleys
Everywhere I wander I come up against emptiness
Of the urban brand, of this cursed city
Inhuman metropolis where everything happens too quickly
But I love it despite everything with a knowing smile
This crazy city of which I am a bit the son
Because we are never as blind as we can be when everything is falling apart
And we are never as alone as we can be in a crowd...
