Bobby O living in yesterday

Living in yesterday
Lonely yesterdays
I once had a friend
Back around 1982
I was in my twenties back then
He was about fifty-two
And he started to tell me all about someone that he really loved
Now the story goes something like this
Might be points that I miss
But this is how I remember it
He started to cry as he said
He couldn't go on without her
She turned to him and said
He'd forget her soon, in the future
He was living in yesterday
Lonely yesterdays
He was living in yesterday
Lonely yesterdays
He said that he loved her
She said they were through
He said: can we work it out?
She said: no
Because I've met somebody new
He was living in yesterday
Lonely yesterdays
He was living in yesterday
Lonely yesterdays
He told about her often
As the years kept passing by
And whenever he heard her name
Or saw her photo
Tears would come to his eyes
He was living in yesterday
Hurtful yesterdays
I've read in the Sunday paper
He died living alone, age 82
And on his tombstone it said:
Sweetheart, you said I would, but I never did forget you
Now he's free from yesterday
Painful yesterdays
Delivered from yesterday
Hurtful yesterday
