David Wirsig tree people

I awoke as a ghost
woke with no body, woke without breathing
woke with no home
o'er the ground i flowed
like fog on the ocean, mist through the marshes
to find you alone
there in the grove
lying between them, the two trees that stood there
still as a stone
there was no wind
stillness and silence, when limbs began swaying
all on their own
the moon burned orange
a flickering crescent glowed incandescent
in the dim light it shone
on the figures of our
father and mother, and faces of others
i had once known
there in the grove
soil was churning, roots began stirring
shuffling slow
withering leaves
trembling tree-things twisting towards you
calling come home
there in the grove
frail branches found you and wrapped all around you
bending your bones
you opened your mouth
yawning and gaping, only silence escaping
i heard not a groan
