Faun die wilde jagd

A girl comes from the valley to the village
so lovely and so fine,
the black miller sees her
and wants to be her lover.
Go away, you dark miller, you
and let me be peaceful.
The wreath that held you for so long,
I don't want to share with you.
Refrain: Run, love, run
and take good care of yourself,
the lord of the black mill wants
you as his wife tonight. (2x)
Then she became a swallow,
flew away from him skyward,
but the miller flew like a falcon
already following her.
She became a horse so white,
flew through the first grass,
but he was the saddle that sat firmly on her back.
Refrain: Run, love, run
and take good care of yourself,
the lord of the black mill wants
you as his wife tonight. (2x)
She became a white hare
and ran half the night,
but the miller became a fox
and sat her down that very night.
She became a ship on the high seas
and sailed far away from land.
But he became the helmsman,
who stood firmly at the helm.
Refrain: Run, love, run
and take good care of yourself,
the lord of the black mill wants
you as his wife tonight. (2x)
So went this enchanted hunt
and already the long night
so that the miller was full of greed
overlooked the morning light.
The girl became the morning light ,
that shone through the valley.
The black miller found an end
and was no longer seen.
Refrain: Run, love, run
home in the morning light .
You'll never see the miller again,
the wild hunt is over. (2x)
