Hank Williams III possum in a tree

I went out the other night to lay some feed
Them stars were shining bright
Beatin' down on me.
I knew there was something
Something staring at me
And to my surprise, I hit my flashlight
And there was a possum in a tree
Possum in a tree lookin at me
You know he's living his life wild and free
I wonder what he's thinking, staring down at me
There ain't nothing like seeing that possum in a tree.
The Ole coon dog was mad as could be
He sure didn't like that possum looking at me
I say hey old troop' you better stick with them coons round here in Tennessee
He just kept on waggin' his tail, lighting up that possum in a tree.
Possum in a tree looking at me
It's always a sight that I like to see
I wonder what he's thinking, staring down at me
There ain't Nothing like seeing that possum in a tree.
Possum in a tree looking at me
You know he's living his life wild and free
I wonder what he's thinking, staring down at me
There ain't nothing like seeing that possum in Tennessee
