Kate Reid closet femme

Over the last couple of weeks
I find myself strolling through the city streets
Coveting the clothes in the windows of those
High-fashion boutiques
I ain’t bold enough to wear those outfits
I couldn’t pull it off, I’d be self-conscious
What if someone saw me out in public?
That lady look isn’t me
I can’t believe I’m saying this out loud
At my workplace, in front of a crowd
Cuz you know me I’m kinda shy
But it’s time I clarified
What you see ain’t always what you get
I have another hidden aesthetic
Underneath this semi-tough exterior
Gotta hi-gloss interior
In the privacy of my home
I like to put on women’s clothes
It’s true, I’m one of them
I am a closet femme, yes I am
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh….
Sometimes when I’m home alone
I throw on one of those full-length slips
I rip my socks and shoes off
And apply some pink lipstick
I wear my black mascara for flair
My favourite eye shadow if I dare
And, if I’m feeling in the mood
I even put on a little rouge
In the privacy of my home
I like to put on women’s clothes
It’s true, I’m one of them
I am a closet femme
Bridge:
When I first came out, I had something to prove
So I bought myself some second-hand army boots
I gave my girlie clothes to Sally Ann
And now, turns out I’m a closet femme
Yes, I am….oh, oh, oh, oh, oh…
(Breakdown)
There’s a lot of hair product that I have
Stashed away in my bathroom drawer
Including a can of hairspray
Cuz you know, I used to be an eighties babe
And when I go on holidays out of town
I pack my jeans and boy button-downs
But my makeup bag and the ten pairs of shoes
They take up the most room
Now, my profile needs diversifying
Revitalizing and glorifying
Gonna get some fishnets and corsets
And show off my assets
So maybe just for fun today
I’ll try on some new lingerie
I could get away with wearing that under my clothes
No-one would ever know
In the privacy of my home
I like to put on women’s clothes
Yes, it’s true, I’m one of them
I am a closet femme, yes I am, I am a closet femme-Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh….
