Roanoke red and gold

Daddy's in the backyard picking up land
Wearing sweat on his brow and dirt on his hands
Gotta make a living gotta sell what he has
So he rides out rest to the red sunset
And he won't come back home till the leaves turn red and gold
Mommas dog tired got a kid on the way
She'll be working too hard till the end of the day
Down by the river my brother and me
Momma needs a fish she's got mouths to feed
She says kids come back home you left hours and hours ago
Oh come back home before the sky turns red and gold
The cold comes and goes, all the green leaves grow
Momma sings a sad song cause daddys not home
She sings come back home, I don't wanna be alone
But he wont come back when the leaves turn red and gold
I'm in the backyard picking up land
Wearing sweat on my brow and dirt on my hands
