Stepping Stone
When we met we talked of how we’d have a life together,
And the differences between us didn’t matter anyhow!
We said we’d try and help ourselves through every kind of weather –
And yet what has happened to us – when you look at us both now?
I’ll be your sister or your brother,
I’ll your father or your mother –
I’ll be your mentor or your lover –
But I’ll never be - your stepping stone.
Though we had some good times as we laughed away the hours.
And we mostly loved to do the things that made us both feel good.
We agreed we had a future – we could face the flak together.
And yet what has happened to us when you look at us both now?
